The story behind our second collection
She’s back! Brook Gossen is the genius behind the bold designs for our much-awaited second collection.
We couldn’t help it, we just had to ask Aussie designer Brook to create the designs for our second collection (psst, read all about this amazing lady in our previous post, the OG illustrator of our first collection).
Brook’s work is described as ‘colourful, feel-good art, surface design + illustration’ on her website (link to: https://brookgossen.com/) and well, what can we say, her work is definitely BOLD and BRIGHT and FABULOUS and it makes us feel super GOOD!
We recently sat down with Brook to discover how the illustration magic unfolded as she drew the designs for our latest range of Wrigglesuits, Supersinglets, Dribblebibs and oh yeah Supersocks – did you know socks are soon to be a permanent feature of our range? Yahoo! From the initial concept through to the final design, it’s a super creative process she undertakes.
Over to you Brook…
"When I saw the brief for fun and bright animals, my cute little crocodiles came about. Making what’s usually a pretty scary animal into something cute and adorable was a challenge I was all for! We really wanted our crocodile critters to be playful, so rather than refining my sketches, we kept them wonky and hand drawn to achieve that vibe.
Next up was fun fruit. Adding eyes to fruit just makes them look sweet and I played around so it looks like they’re all looking at each other to keep them cute and playful. My favourite part about this design is the palette though. No green to be seen! Keeping it fairly minimal gives it a fruity cool vibe.
Lastly we have a lovely, feminine floral. We wanted to keep this one sweet and simple, yet with a little bit of playfulness thrown to keep it cute. Adding in little accents of spots and stripes is part of my signature style so I enjoyed adding those in, in a more minimal way. We kept the palette simple for this one too. For each of the designs, I created a cute secondary print that includes one element of the pattern, plus placement design, for a second onesie or a coordinating singlet. It’s really hard to pick a favourite.
I can’t wait to see little bambinos looking super dooper cute in this range, that’s for sure! Thank you so much to the Bambi Mini team for working with me once again, it was an absolute pleasure."
